Panel: Bridging the Gap: Discursive Perspectives on PR and the Popularization of Science, Technology, Social Work and the Arts
While Public Relations have
attracted quite some interest from researchers, both in media and business
communication studies and within the broad fields of discourse analysis and linguistic
pragmatics, so far little or no attention has been paid to the ways in which
not-for-profit, expert-driven fields like science, technology, social work and the
arts get their message across to the press. That's why this panel proposes brings together various text- and communication-focused perspectives on the PR
of popularization in general and on press releases and press conferences in
particular.
All contributions to the panel present empirical analysis. The scope of analytical approaches and
methods enables us to address questions concerning methods of inquiry and investigation
as well as reaching a deeper understanding of the complex discursive practices
that lie at the heart of the PR and popularization process.
